Salvation Mount
Salvation Mount is a colourful religious installation covering much of a small hill near Niland, California; it is made from adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of paint. The Mount was created by Leonard Knight, it is an on going project that has taken him over 25 years to build.
Steps cut into the side of the hill lead to the summit which is topped by a large wooden cross. Salvation Mountain has many large straw bale and adobe walls supported by logs enclosing several internal shrines. Knight lives full-time at the site; in the surrounding area is a collection of vehicles and machinery covered with paint and Biblical quotes.
